FOIA Resources from the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press
Yesterday my DC summer program class met with lawyers from the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. In addition to learning more about the amazing work they do to promote the freedom of the press, I discovered two really helpful public resources on the state and federal freedom of information law that RCFP has developed.
First, reminiscent of the wiki-like Federal Administrative Procedure Sourcebook that the Administrative Conference of the United States and the ABA Administrative Law Section launched earlier this year, RCFP hosts FOIA wiki, which is a “free and collaborative resource on the U.S. Freedom of Information Act is provided by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, with contributions from The FOIA Project at TRAC, MuckRock, The National Security Archive, FOIA Mapper, Open the Government, and users like you.” This is a fantastic resource for lawyers (and nonlawyers) working on FOIA requests as well as for administrative law professors and students.
Second, RCFP has launched iFOIA.org, which “allows registered users to create, send, maintain and share FOI requests at the state and federal level.” Unlike FOIA wiki, I haven’t had the chance to explore iFOIA.org in great detail. But it looks like another terrific resource for FOIA practitioners.
